Maths: During their time at St Anthony’s, our children become confident mathematicians. They grow a bank of key facts and skills, ready for further development in later education and equipping them for use in everyday life. Children learn to understand the four operations and how they are interconnected. They become fluent in key facts, whilst developing the ability to apply these in a variety of contexts through reasoning and problem solving. Children deepen their understanding by becoming comfortable in discussing and illustrating mathematical facts and concepts through accurate vocabulary, models and images.
We believe in a mastery approach to our Mathematical learning and focus on the big five ideas for mastery teaching: Coherence, variation, fluency, mathematical thinking, representation and structure.
