Art & Design
Art and Design intent statement:
Our intention in Art and Design is to stimulate creativity and imagination, whilst engaging, inspiring and challenging our pupils. Through high quality art and design lessons, our pupils will learn the specific knowledge and skills in order for them to experiment, invent and create their own works of art and designs. We want our pupils to find enjoyment in art and creativity, as well as develop an appreciation for the work of a range of artists. At St Anthony’s we enrich the children’s learning by inviting outside agencies, including artists, to share and demonstrate their knowledge and skills with our pupils. We encourage our pupils to confidently and skillfully use a range of techniques and materials. Children at St Anthony’s are encouraged to create for a purpose through entry to a range of competitions such as the Catholic Schools Partnership exhibition, Christmas card competitions and many more.
Design and Technology intent statement:
At St Anthony’s we provide opportunities and support children to develop skills and knowledge in design, structures, mechanisms and a wide variety of materials, including food. Our focus on food technology promotes healthy eating and recognising what our bodies need to stay healthy. We then provide opportunities for our children to experiment, make and taste healthy food.
At each stage of learning, children will be able to build on previous skills learnt and develop the creative, technical and practical expertise needed to perform everyday tasks confidently and successfully. St Anthony’s will do this by creating opportunities for pupils to develop their ideas, supporting and challenging them along the way.
