St. Anthony's Catholic Primary School a Voluntary Academy

Every Child   Every Chance   Every Day   Together with Christ

Stone Age

In our history topic of the Stone Age the children thoroughly enjoyed learning about people lived in the past, how we learn form artefacts and all about Stonehenge. Having spent the half term learning about it they then produced some super PowerPoints in ICT and presented them to the whole Class.

Take a look and see what you can learn.

In art we worked with a variety of mediums: charcoal, watercolours, paint, pastels, card and tissue paper. We produced a variety of landscapes that are displayed in Class. We have some very talented artists! We also did some 3D modelling of Stonehenge and Toby and Paulina even recreated Stonehenge from dominoes!

Rocks

In science with Mrs Martin the children studied rocks. A lot of the work focused on the earth’s formation, and the different layers of rock. They became real scientists and examined different soils and towards the end of the unit the children were very excited to make their own crystals!

The Good News

This half terms RE we have been leaning about the Good News parables. We studied Feeding the 5,000, Jarius’ daughter and The 10 Lepers. The children retold the stories by writing story boards, acting out the scenes, telephoning friends and family and newspaper reports. We looked at the deeper meaning and how we should remember to say thank you.

Talk for writing – Finding tale.

In literacy we have been learning ‘The Adventures at Sandy Cove’ and in order to do so we acted out the scenes, did puppet shows and create a story map with actions. The children got stuck into unit and have since written their own finding tale in groups and independently.

They have used similes:

As still as stone (Erin)

As fast as the wind (Paolo)

As white as a ghost (Severn)

Cried like a baby (Oliver)

Shook like a leaf (Lucy)

speech and lots of adverbs. Well done Year 3!
