Every Child   Every Chance   Every Day   Together with Christ

Class 3

Year 2 & 3

Miss Hall

Mrs Johnson

Class 3 have got off to a storming start! We have had a giant on the premises, but panic not, help is at hand. Year 3 will be writing some instructions on how to trap this pest!

We have started singing with Mrs Appleyard and learning how to play the glockenspiel so look forward to some performances in assembly.

The children work fantastically as a team, solving Maths problems and baking some delicious fridge cake for the MacMillan coffee morning.

Science - Humans and animals

The children have been particularly interested in learning about how humans, caterpillars and chickens grow up differently. They produced some super life cycles that they will show in Friday’s assembly and will be up on display in the classroom for all to see.

Art

This half term we have been focusing on using different painting techniques and using charcoal to draw a landscape in perspective. We looked at volcanoes for our final piece and created an explosive painting of Mount Vesuvius. We used paint flicking, paint blowing and power paint to create different effects.

Following on from this Mr Bullock came in and we spent the whole day doing Art based activities. It was a definite Art Attack situation in Class 3. Cardboard, newspaper, cellotape, tissue paper, glue and paint was certainly the recipe for some excellent art work. The children learnt so many new skills and had so much fun doing it. The outcome were 3D masks and paintings of Hadrian’s wall. The children are so very proud of their work.

PE - Athletics

The focus this half term has been to work on our throwing, jumping and running skills. We have learnt how to play hop scotch and the children challenged themselves by hopping on their weaker foot. We have practiced our long jump and the children gave some great demonstrations making sure they bent their knees, swung their arms and landed with feet together and knees bent. We looked at different throwing techniques: underarm, overarm and chest pass. The children really enjoyed playing the warm up game ‘gears’ where we tried to pick the correct and most appropriate speed to move.

Design Technology - Smoothies

The children put the ‘Kids kitchen’ to great use this half term. We have been working towards making our own smoothies and spent the first part of the process looking at existing smoothies already being sold. The children got to try different flavours and discuss which fruits went best together. We the started to design our own and finally the children got to make, taste and evaluate their own design. They were that good we think we might start our own smoothie company...watch out ‘Innocent’.

The Peter Pan production was a fantastic way to finish off a very long half term. Class 3 dressed up in all sorts of peter pan themed costumes, we looked very impressive don’t you think!?

Leeds City Museum

To end our Romans topic we took a trip to Leeds City Museum. We explored to Romans trial and linked it with the Greeks and the Egyptians. We even had a sneeky peek at the animals world. After lunch we had Roman workshop with an expert and we looked at the timeline, armor and even made our own helmets.

CHILDREN IN NEED

Through our chocolate raffle and PJ and play day. Class 3 raised a whopping

£275

Sewing

As part of a Design Technology unit we decided to do some Christmas sowing. We started by practicing threading needles and explore the different stitches: running, back and cross. We then had a go at making our own patterns before creating a our very own embroidered Christmas tree onto binca. Some children really excelled in this, Scott, Harry, Emma and Evie even put a border, a star on top, baubles and presents under the tree. This was put into a card and sent home for Christmas.

Lucky parents :)
