Curriculum

St. Anthony’s Catholic Primary School is committed to meeting the requirements of the new primary curriculum from September 2014. 

Through a series of staff meetings across the Summer Term of 2014, we updated our schemes of work to reflect the content and challenge of the new curriculum. In the Summer term of 2016 teachers met to review our ongoing curriculum. The topic plans will be available here very soon. 

The curriculum will be taught with the consideration of the needs of all learners. Our curriculum will be exciting and will encourage children to nurture a passion for independent lifelong learning. Topics are linked to Educational Visits and Visitors to further inspire children to discover more about the areas of learning, together with after school activities organised by the Learning Mentor. 

In EYFS and Y1 we use Ruth Miskin's 'Read Write Inc' for the teaching of phonics, reading and writing. The scheme then becomes an intervention for children in Y2 and above who need phonic reinforcement. You can find video tips on how to support Read Write Inc here.

Across school we also use the Rigby Star Guided Reading Scheme to support the children's development of reading.

Children across school have their full entitlement to Reading, Writing, Maths, PE and RE. These subjects are often taught in the morning. Our RE curriculum is supported by 'The Way, the Truth and the Life' scheme as recommended by the Diocese of Leeds.

Other subjects are taught across the week, often together in 'Topic' work. We have specialist support for Music and Singing across the school and for Art in upper KS2. All children also take part in specialist Drama, Dance and Speaking and Listening workshops on a weekly basis with 'Shuffle' from Artis.

PE is supported by a specialist PE teacher who works with all children across the school throughout the year. They are currently funded by our additional Sports Funding to work alongside the class teachers.
